Comment spam on LiveJournal (especially now that I’ve announced my move to my own host) has to be the lamest thing ever.  No, I don’t want links to “lesbian action” on my LJ; please go away. Until the idiot takes the hint, I’ve disabled anonymous commenting on my LJ.

I’ve noticed that there’s not much commenting over here, and I’m wondering - is it because I’m not interesting enough, or is my current anti-spam system blocking legitimate commenters? I could swear there was an entry on Twenty Sided about having trouble with the spamblockers, but I can’t find the specific entry right now. Figures. Anyway, if you’ve wanted to comment here but couldn’t, send me an email and let me know, okay? I need to know if I should change my spam-blocking the way Shamus did.

LJ Problem resolved!  Apparently had nothing to do with the database shift.  Many thanks to isabeau, who figured out what was making the LJ syndication hang, so I could fix it.

For some reason I can’t figure out, the RSS feed syndication on LJ broke when I updated to MySQL5.  I don’t know why, but I’m playing with settings to try to fix it without resorting to going back to MySQL4.  I really don’t want to bother with going backwards if I can help it.  I’ll crosspost this on LJ today so the feed subscribers can see why I disappeared…

Yesterday, when I tried to post the personality test I found on my computer, I discovered a significant difference between WordPress and LiveJournal. My time settings were off by an hour (I blame Daylight Savings time) so I changed the timestamp to the actual time.

The post didn’t show up. I ended up playing with a lot of settings before I figured out that WP lets me schedule posts for later release that way. I’m too used to LJ’s way of letting you timestamp it anything you want, but it all shows up at once. I like WP better (big surprise) so I’m hoping this will enable me to be more regular in my posting.

And yes, I’ve changed my time setting to fix the problem, but I’ve left the other timestamp as it was. It isn’t like it matters that much which hour I posted;)

It’s a little ironic, considering I finally got people to come join LJ, and now I’m moving my main blogging off to Chrystalline.com, but there it is. There are a few different reasons for this, but it mostly boils down to control - as in, I like having most of the control, and I have more of it on my own server with WordPress than I do on LJ.

I’ll still use LJ if I need to make a Friends-Locked post, but generally, I plan to do most of my blogging on my own server now.

For your convenience, I’ve already added the feed to LJ.

I plan to update tomorrow, as a lot has happened this week, and I need the time to write it all up.
